Christmas Markets on the Costa del Sol, Spain 2017

Post by: Gerarda on 28 Nov 2017

Christmas is just around the corner. I can hear the Hallelujah Chorus playing in my head from the many times I have either heard it being performed live, sung it in a choir myself, or listened to a recording of it. It is a reminder that the beautiful time of the year is upon us when people are kinder to each other, the light is just that little bit brighter and homes are starting to have that glorious scent of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. The aroma that says, Christmas cookies are in the oven.

It wouldn´t be Christmas without the traditional markets. Once again, the Costa del Sol is alive and buzzing with markets from Gibraltar to Malaga and many points in between selling everything from decorations to food.

If you are wondering when the markets are on then wonder no more. Have a look at the list below and arrange to meet your friends, taste the mulled wine and buy that special something you were looking for?

A Facelift for Antonio Banderas

Post by: Gerarda on 22 Feb 2016

Antonio Banderas Plaza 2016

If you are Antonio Banderas the actor, then you don´t need a facelift as you are so darn handsome. However, if you are on the other hand, Antonio Banderas the 20 year old plaza in Puerto Banús, then you definitely need a make-over.

The Ayuntamiento has spent €434,000 on this new appearance for Puerto Banús. If you come to Banús now you will see the results of five month´s work, a newly renovated plaza with giant pergolas that provide shade from the summer sun, ample seating to rest your weary bones from soaking up that sun and shopping in the numerous stores in town. The marble floor has been restored and a new lighting system installed so you no longer have to look so carefully where you are putting your feet.

The Ayuntamiento is hoping that now since the plaza has been refurbished, it will become a destination and not just a place to walk through on your way elsewhere.

Come and enjoy the new look!

Goats Have No Time for Teeth

Post by: Gerarda on 19 Feb 2015

The greatest migration in the world is taking place now for Chinese New Year. Millions more will celebrate in countries that circle the globe to celebrate the Year of the Goat (Ram).

As it is customary for Chinese people to greet each other with good wishes when they meet during this time, I have provided a list of greetings and proverbs I found in the International Business Times UK paper you can use on your friends and at Chinese restaurants you might frequent.

Have a healthy, prosperous Year of the Goat!

Chinese greetings

  • Happy Chinese New Year! Wishing you prosperity on the Year of the Ram.
  • I wish you all the luck, health, and fortune and all those you love! Happy Chinese New Year.
  • Wish you success in your career and happiness for your family! Happy Chinese New Year!
  • May the Year of the Goat attract all the good wishes this year.
  • Happy Lunar New Year. Hope all your New Year dreams come true!
  • I wish you good health, wealth and luck for the forthcoming year of the Goat!
  • Get rid of the demons of the year gone by and embrace the positives to lead a fulfilling and pleasurable life ahead. Wish you good fortune on the Chinese New Year!
  • Τhis New Year may good luck and prosperity follow yοu wherever you gο, and may Lady Luck scare away any misfortune that was planning tο come yοur way.
  • Harmony brings health. May joy and happiness surround you today and always!
  • Happiness, Prosperity, Longevity! (In Mandarin: 福禄寿, pronounced: fú lù shòu)
  • Enjoy good health! (In Mandarin: 身体健康; pronounced: Shēntǐ jiànkāng)
