Examination & Digital X-ray

Examination

Regular dental examinations (check-ups) are an important part of preventive dental care. A dental check-up normally includes X- rays or other diagnostic procedures. During the examination, the dentist, Dr. Mattis Mamusa, will likely discuss your oral hygiene and if need be, demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques.

Examination & Digital X-ray

Digital X-ray

At Stockholm Dental Clinic in Puerto Banus (Marbella), we use a digital X-ray system. This means that any image of your teeth can be shown to you immediately on a screen. You no longer have to wait for X-ray film to be developed.

The image on the screen will look like any typical dental X-ray image, only much larger. One of the advantages with digital X-ray is that it allows our dentist to enhance the image; for example, zoom in on a single tooth, rotate the image, sharpen it or colorize it, thereby accessing important information about your teeth and surrounding bone structure.

A digital X-ray operates much like a traditional X-ray system. However, instead of using X-ray film, a flat sensor is placed in your mouth. A thin wire connects the sensor to a computer. An X-ray beam is sent through your teeth and is registered by the sensor, which records the image and sends it to the computer.

There are several reasons why it is better to use digital X-rays instead of more conventional X-rays. As the digital X-ray system is much more sensitive than ordinary dental X-ray film, your exposure to radiation is reduced up to 90 percent. The large and color-enhanced images allows you to see what the dentist sees, so it is easier for you to understand when he explains what can be seen on the x-rays. It is also better for the environment because we do not create excess waste with used chemicals necessary for conventional developing.

Intra-oral camera

Intra oral cameras have revolutionized the way dentists diagnose. The intra oral-camera allows the dentist to take a much closer look at your teeth and surrounding soft tissue. Therefore, he can better assess your oral health.

Using an intra-oral camera, the dentist can detect fillings that are breaking down and small cracks or fractures in the teeth that cannot be seen on X-rays or with the naked eye. When you know what is happening in your mouth, you are able to make a more informed decision about suggested treatment.
