Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

In cases where for example, caries has ruined a large portion of the tooth, a porcelain inlay or onlay would offer a stronger solution compared to an extensive composite restoration. These lab-made restorations have an advantage compared to composite fillings from both an esthetic and functional point of view.

Whereas dental fillings are molded into place and finished during one dental visit, inlays and onlays require two visits. The tooth is prepared, impressions are taken and a temporary is cemented. In the dental lab a model is produced and the inlay made. Once the inlay has been delivered to Stockholm Dental Clinic, it is fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth.

The restoration is considered an inlay when the material is bonded within the tooth. Equally, the restoration is considered an onlay when the damage of the tooth requires more or less full coverage of the whole chewing surface.
